"How To"
Make Tummy and Tush Plates !
Make your very own One of a kind OOAK (One Of A Kind) Reborn Berenguer Doll
No two babies are ever alike.
These reborn instructions are just one of many possible ways to make tummy and tush plates for your reborn Berenguer doll or similar doll. I find this method one of the easiest ways, so it is a good one to follow if you are just getting started with reborning.
In re-selling your reborn, tummy and tush plates often bring higher values to your creation. |
Step 1:
Disassemble doll!
Remove the vinyl limbs from the torso of your Berenguer doll. Some force may be needed to remove the limbs. If there is any factory blushing on the torso use a remover to take all the paint off. |
Step 2:
Cutting |
There are a variety of ways to cut the tummy and tush plates for displaying with your babies. Some cut the torso in half. Some make ties for the torso so you can attach it to your baby. Others cut down the back of the torso and wrap it around their baby. The techniques go on and on.......
This is a general beginning instructions to reborn berenguer plates. It is easiest to trim the vinyl using a precision knife. CAUTION SHOULD BE USED. THESE ARE VERY SHARP KNIVES. Try to always cut away from you to protect yourself.
Cut the torso across the shoulders. Cut the neck out. |
Step 3:
Cut Torso |
Cut down both side's of the torso between the arm and leg holes. Cut across the crotch. This separates the torso in two. |
Step 4:
Trimming |

Trim the arm and leg areas removing the extra vinyl around them. Take your time and cut carefully. Wash all parts in hot soapy water. Rinse well and allow to dry. |
Step 5:
Wash and Paint |
Purple wash the backside of the vinyl pieces. (See "Purple Washing Instructions" for tips on mixing your paints for purple washing). |
Once you have your paints mixed and ready, paint the backside of your vinyl pieces. Allow to dry thoroughly. You can leave the back of the vinyl pieces purple or finish them off with a white acrylic paint. This is preference. Allow to dry. |
Step 6:
(OPTIONAL)
Veining |
If you would like to put veins on your plates now is the time to do this. Take your blue veining pencil and draw some veins on the tummy. You can rub them in to lighten. You can also lighten with a damp Cotton Swab. I usually do both. This will give the look of veins being right under the skin. |
Step 7:
Blush |
Use Stencil crèmes such as berry berry or mauve to blush the outside of the tummy. Good places to blush are over the chest and around the navel. Allow to dry. Blush the tush plate at this time as well. |
If you need to re-blush do so now. Allow to dry. Its all up to each individual artist where and how you like your plates blushed. I emphasized the blushing some so it would show in the photo's better. |
Step 8:
Finish |
Your berenguer plates are ready for display. Tuck it under the diaper and around the side of your berenguer doll as far as you can. For pictures or display pull a onesie over the top and place a hospital blanket around the sides of the cloth body to cover where the plate does not reach. |
Plates add to your baby Berenguer reborn more realistic features. Giving parent(s) more options of displaying and having fun with their baby. Remove the plates for a soft cuddle. |
